Ceramics by Rose Bates
Rose Bates lives and creates her beautiful ceramics in Lee-on-the-Solent.
Rose’s work falls mainly into two areas. She is currently working on crystalline glazes for porcelain and white stoneware clays. The challenge of creating colourful crystals onto suitable forms needs a dogged attitude in the face of sometimes disappointing results results amongst the increasingly lovely surprises.
The second area of work is sculpting, particularly the human form and animal forms, each piece differing with surface treatment and firing techniques. Raku and pit firing give special, unique earthy colours with interesting crackle glazes highlighting the fact that each piece of work is very different from its partner.
